6 Practical Energy-Saving Solutions for Vacuum & Non-Vacuum Brick Extruders
2026-05-26
High power consumption has always been a major pain point for brick production lines. Many brick factories face high production costs due to unreasonable equipment configuration, improper operation, and backward management, even with mature production processes. As the core power-consuming equipment of brick production, the extruder’s energy-saving optimization directly reduces the unit production cost of bricks and improves corporate profit margins.
Based on years of equipment manufacturing and on-site debugging experience, we summarize 6 actionable energy-saving measures for vacuum and non-vacuum extruders, covering equipment transformation, parameter optimization, and production management, helping manufacturers reduce power consumption while ensuring output.
1. Install Reactive Power Local Compensator to Improve Motor Power Factor
The motor is the main power-consuming component of the extruder. Long-term low power factor leads to serious reactive power loss and wasted electric energy. Installing a reactive power local compensator at the wiring end of the extruder motor is a simple and efficient energy-saving transformation method.
After installation, the motor power factor can be stably increased to about 0.95, achieving an energy-saving rate of more than 15%. The energy-saving effect is more prominent for equipment with low load operation and motors far away from transformers. This transformation requires no major equipment modification, low investment, and quick return, suitable for all types of brick extruders.
2. Select Vacuum Pump Scientifically to Avoid Excessive Power Waste
In the past, most brick factories adopted extensive production modes and blindly equipped high-power vacuum pumps for vacuum extruders, resulting in serious energy waste. Due to poor sealing technology in the early stage, a 450mm vacuum extruder needed a 22KW vacuum pump, yet it still could not reach the standard vacuum degree.
With the upgrading of vacuum system sealing technology and pump body performance, the energy-saving space of vacuum pumps is huge. At present, a 5.5KW mechanical vacuum pump can fully meet the operation needs of 500mm and even larger vacuum extruders, and maintain long-term stable high vacuum degree. Replacing high-power obsolete vacuum pumps with low-power high-efficiency models is one of the most effective energy-saving methods for vacuum extruders.
3. Optimize Spiral Blade Design to Reduce Power Consumption by 20%-30%
The spiral blade determines the extrusion efficiency and power consumption of the extruder. Backward blade design is the main hidden cause of high energy consumption and low output. Field transformation data shows that optimizing and upgrading the spiral blade structure and pitch can reduce extruder power consumption by 20%-30% and increase hourly output by 20%-30% simultaneously.
Customized blade design according to raw material plasticity can effectively reduce extrusion resistance, avoid mud stagnation and repeated kneading, reduce equipment load, and realize double improvement of energy saving and production increase. It is the core technical transformation item for high-efficiency operation of extruders.
4. Improve Mud Cylinder Structure to Eliminate Invalid Power Consumption
Many manufacturers have a wrong cognition that the longer the mud cylinder, the better the compaction effect. Excessively long mud cylinders will cause unnecessary power loss: the equipment load increases sharply, the mud cylinder overheats seriously, and the internal mud is over-kneaded, resulting in reduced brick blank quality.
Practical production verification shows that the optimal sealing section length of the spiral blade is within 3 pitches. A longer sealing section cannot improve molding quality but will generate invalid power consumption. Optimizing the mud cylinder length to match the blade working range can effectively reduce equipment load and heat loss.
5. Operate at the Optimal Speed to Realize Low Consumption and High Output
Most brick factory operators believe that the higher the extruder speed, the higher the output and the lower the unit energy consumption. This is a typical production misunderstanding. Under the same raw materials and working conditions, the extruder has only one optimal operating speed.
When running at the optimal speed, the equipment has the lowest power consumption and the most stable output. Once exceeding the critical speed, the mud extrusion resistance increases sharply, the output no longer rises, and the power consumption increases significantly. Reasonable speed matching according to raw material viscosity and plasticity is the key to daily energy-saving operation.
6. Strengthen Production Management & Equipment Maintenance to Reduce Hidden Energy Consumption
Under the same equipment and raw material conditions, the power consumption per ten thousand bricks of different brick factories varies greatly, mainly due to management loopholes. Unstable feeding speed (insufficient feeding or over-feeding cylinder swelling), mismatched front and rear process procedures, and frequent shutdowns will directly reduce unit output and relatively increase power consumption.
In addition, delayed equipment maintenance will aggravate energy consumption: worn mud cylinder liners, excessive gap between spiral blade and liner (more than 20mm) will increase extrusion resistance and equipment operating load. Regular inspection, maintenance, and gap correction can effectively eliminate hidden energy consumption.
